Hi friends. Today is Day 32 since my major surgery, ORIF (open reduction and internal fixation). I still don’t know what the hardware looks like in my foot since I have not seen those x-rays, but I plan to ask at my next appointment (Aug 26).

Pain wise I have been feeling pretty good but I have strange sensations in my foot. Numbness, burning, tingling, itching. The swelling has also gotten worse since I have been unable to elevate this past week. On the back of my heel I have a deep scabbed over wound that developed after the fracture pressed against the soft tissue for an extended amount of time (~17 hrs). No matter how I elevate there is pressure on that wound and it is uncomfortable. I am not sure why it started acting up this past week, I did not feel that pressure right after surgery when I was elevating constantly. Very strange. I am looking forward to elevating again soon. In the meantime I have been using a compression sleeve to try and help.

Cooking is next to impossible, even with my scooter. I can’t lift things around the kitchen, and I make a HUGE mess since I can’t move as carefully. I am still working on recipes in spite of this limitation, last night I made an amazing roasted vegetable salad with baked chicken thighs. The execution of the dish was… meh, but I plan to make it again when I can actually walk so expect that dish in a few months! It was very flavorful! Thanks for following along!

I don’t have an ankle!
